Cambridge City Council has paid out almost 100,000 in compensation claims – including 47,000 for a syringe injury.

One employee claimed damages after suffering various injuries while working on site when a cupboard fell from a wall. The cost of the claim was 9,596.88.
The following year, a worker sustained a back injury after tripping up in the workplace, costing the authority 12,650.
In 2008, a claim was settled for an employee who injured a hand on glass while at work at a cost of 14,257.50. And in 2009, it cost the council 47,600 to settle a claim from an employee who suffered a needle stick injury in the hand while working on site.
Most recently, the council paid 13,510 this year after another employee sustained a back injury caused by a trip.
Cllr Lewis Herbert, Labour leader on the city council, said: “Both the range of incidents and scale of payments are worrying.
“I have contacted the council’s human resources manager to dig into the details, as several look like refuse and street cleaning workers, and they do face nasty hazards in their daily work for the community.
“Our wider concern here is the council’s poor recent record on sickness and absence levels, which suggests poor morale and control, as well as a waste of valuable time and money from a council team that overall works very hard for residents.Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt,”

“As for morale, we are going through some hard times at the moment but we are doing what we can to support our staff.”
