Lawyer's kitchen provides perfect space for a 'party house'

There's a drawer near the floor of Marty Hollingsworth's kitchen.

"The house was all electric. I was raised on gas cooking and do not care for electric, so I ran a gas line for the cooktop," said Hollingsworth, who included the fieldstone fireplace in the adjoining family room as part of the gas upgrade.

The cornerstone tiles, like the drawer near the floor, are the signatures of designer Bob Mead.

With the kick of a toe, the drawer extends and offers Hollingsworth a necessary kitchen helper -- a Step-fix ladder by Hailo that helps her reach the top shelves of her cabinets. To highlight the crystal stemware, Mead included a couple of other design tricks -- the inside of the cabinets are covered in a coat of dark paint, mirrors are added to the base of the shelves and lighting to the top.

"This is a way to really make the crystal sparkle," said Mead.

Hollingsworth chose stainless appliances for her kitchen, including the five-burner gas cooktop, KitchenAid refrigerator and microwave oven and GE Profile dishwasher.
