Chrysler, Faurecia and 'Superplug' among SPE auto award winners

Chrysler Group LLC was just recovering from the double blow of the 2008 recession and its own bankruptcy when it was faced with some hard facts about its future products.

The Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker knew it needed to upgrade key vehicles, including its midsize sedans, but it had only a fraction of the normal development time to develop interiors for those cars.

But working closely with supplier Faurecia SA, Chrysler developed new interiors its Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger 2011 model year sedans, and now has won the Automotive Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers’ Vehicle Engineering Team Award.

New plant awaits loan from Crossville

A Swedish company hopes to open an $8 million, 500-employee factory in Crossville, Tenn., and is taking job applications for its first foray into American manufacturing.

Compensation culture blamed for council pay-outs of 100k

Cambridge City Council has paid out almost 100,000 in compensation claims – including 47,000 for a syringe injury.

Anderson County to be conduit for Bosch grants

Nelson said the Appalachian Council of Governments has agreed to monitor the projects to ensure that they comply with the Davis-Bacon Act. That act requires that workers on government-funded projects are paid wages that are comparable to what the majority of people in their field would earn in a particular region.

Interim county administrator Rusty Burns apologized to the council members for asking them to convene in the special meeting Wednesday.

"This is a matter of some urgency that will help Bosch," he said, before asking Nelson to explain the grants.
