Tania Ginoza says she shops for items like vintage glassware, jewelry, art and letter press stationery about once a month from Etsy. Etsy seller Jaime Core says the company sent her an email with a "long" survey asking about her items, specifically a soy strawberry candle. The survey requested the names and ages of anyone working with her in her candle-making business and for step-by-step photos of her production process. "I was flipping out," says Ms. Core, 26, from Orlando, Fla. About two hours after she sent in the photos and answers, Etsy responded by email: "Thanks for being part of the Etsy community," she says. It didn't close her shop. She says she doesn't know why her candles were flagged. Julian Wong, a manager of the Etsy integrity and safety teams, says, "We open up dialogues with sellers and most instances (well over 80%) result in outcomes like Jaime's."

Enforcing the rules is "sort of a crazy part of our business," says Dan Christofferson, marketing director of Etsy rival Big Cartel, a website in Salt Lake City, Utah., that helps artists and crafters create online shops.

In mice lacking SCAANT1, sense promoter P2A is de-repressed, allowing a mutant ataxin-7 gene to be expressed, resulting in mice with a version of SCA7. The scientists found a similar lack of antisense SCAANT1 in the fibroblasts and white blood cells taken from human patients with SCA7, implicating deregulation of this pathway in the disease process.

As many inherited neurological disorders are now known to exhibit such overlapping "bidirectional" transcription, the findings in SCA7 could shed light on similar abnormalities with non-coding RNA function in a number of brain diseases.

Judge rules against family's claim of bedbugs at Yuba City hotel

A family of four failed to prove bedbugs infested their room at a Yuba City motel, a Sutter County judge said today.

The family filed a Small Claims Court lawsuit against the Days Inn, 700 N. Palora Ave., seeking about $2,000 for clothing and bedding they said had to be thrown away because of bedbugs.

Checking into the motel Feb. 24, family members said, they found "really terrible conditions," including black mold in a bathroom and a smoke odor and cigarette burns in what they were told was a non-smoking room. A desk clerk switched them to a different room, said Fay Biondo.

When they awoke about 1 a.m. in the second room, bedbugs "were all over us ¡ª all different sizes and colors," Biondo told Judge Perry Parker.A glass bottle is a bottle created from glass.
