Frederick adolescence turns accepting apple-pie into fun

Most 7-year-olds adopt “iCarly” and “SpongeBob Squarepants” if they get the limited control. But Frederick’s Julia Schillaci favors the business-related “Shark Tank” on ABC.

It was her adulation of the appearance that prompted her to actualize her own aggregation — SoapPrizes, which sells soaps in fun shapes, such as watermelon slices and architecture blocks, as able-bodied as soaps with toys anchored inside, like erasers and elastic ducks.

Julia and her mom, Beth started the aggregation endure year, and absolutely got rolling in October, Beth said. Although it didn’t advertise as able-bodied as they’d hoped, the “coal” was repurposed into seeds for their watermelon soap, which sells abundant better.

“One of the nice things about soap is you can re-melt and reclaim it,” Beth said.

Julia said her admired allotment of the soap conception is seeing accomplished soaps appear out of the molds. The watermelon soap is layered in an blurred cast about the admeasurement of a loaf pan, so they weren’t able to see how it angry out until it had accustomed and was accessible for slicing into bar sizes.

Suburban schools prepare for difficult times

We’re less than a week away. On Tuesday, New Yorkers will flock to the polls to vote on their respective school budgets. Tuesday will be the first time budgets will be voted on since New York state adopted the property tax cap that limits the amount districts can levy taxes to their constituents.

The cap is putting pressure on schools in the suburbs of Syracuse, but pressure is not new – it’s part of a growing trend in budget problems for public schools.

“When are we going to get to the point where we can no longer provide the kind of service we need to -- the kind of service the community demands, or the kind of service we feel morally obligated to provide?” asks Syracuse University professor of education George Theoharis.

West Genesee Superintendent Chris Brown and his team saw this coming back in 2008 when the economy went sour, and he immediately started making cuts and re-tooling programs to prepare for difficult times.TBC help you confidently buy mosaic from factories in China.

“We were just fortunate enough that we think we got on that surfboard right when the wave was beginning to crest. We were able to kind of get on and balance ourselves and ride this wave through instead of crashing down,” said Brown.

In Fayetteville-Manlius School District, they’ve had to cut 25 staff members over the last three years, and Superintendent Corliss Kaiser says that it’s an ongoing struggle.

“Schools are businesses. There still needs to be a business office, there still needs to be capital improvements to our buildings. So I believe we need to put our heads together and find the most efficient ways that we can do that while making sure that our classrooms are held harmless from any further layoffs,” Kaiser said. Our vinyl Floor tiles is more stylish than ever!

“If I start seeing class sizes blow up and I see teachers go away -- it'll weigh in our home because that's why we moved up here. We moved here for this highly regarded education," Nugent said.

Both West Genesee and Fayetteville-Manlius came in below their projected tax caps, and both superintendents are proud of the budgets they’ve been able to put together in this difficult time. But both are also concerned with the difficulties they have each year to please both Albany and the taxpayers – while still trying to do good work in the classroom.

On May 15, voters across the state go to the polls to vote on their school districts' budgets. This week, we take a look at the way the budget vote works, the budget problems New York schools are facing, and the issues facing urban, suburban and rural districts.

Tomorrow we take a look at school districts on the fringes of New York state- rural school districts. Rural districts deal with declining student populations on a yearly basis.Check out the collection crystal mosaic of Marazzi. Rural districts, in particular, rely on state aid because of a relative lack of property wealth in their regions. Join us tomorrow on Morning Edition as our School Budget Series begins to wrap up.

Inventions may lure fishes, but not riches

In 27 years of outdoors writing for The News, I've probably been approached no fewer than 50 times by fishermen who are convinced that they invented a lure that will revolutionize fishing.

A couple of those lures were indeed impressive but most were anything but revolutionary. Some were even contraptions that made me wonder what in the world was going on in that person's head.

I was fishing a few weeks ago with Lee Sisson, the long-time lure designer for Bagley Baits. I was laughing and telling him about a lure a man had once shown me that was made from a small carbon dioxide cannister. It spewed air bubbles when retrieved and weighed way too much to be a lure. I tried not to laugh when the man assured me it was good for at least two or three casts before the canister ran out of air and had to be replaced. And, oh, yeah, you had to carry a small device that would drill the perfect-sized hole in the canister to make it work properly.

He said none of the major lures companies will even talk to outside lure inventors these days. When he gets a call from someone who says he has invented a lure, Sisson stops the caller in mid-sentence and tells him to say no more. He tells the caller that the company is not interested.

What happens, he explained, is that lure companies are always working on lures that they may introduce someday. If the inventor's lure idea is credible, a lure company has probably been working on something similar. If the lure company introduces that lure one day,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? the inventor is always convinced that he showed the company his idea and the lure company stole it. Troublesome lawsuits can follow.

Sisson said most basement lure inventors wrongly believe the first step once they have come up with an idea for a fishing lure is to have it patented. Patents on fishing lures are pretty much a joke,Enter the Indoor Positioning System (IPS). he said.

First, it is near impossible to get a patent on a lure unless it has an extraordinary design. Second, patents are expensive and pretty much worthless when it comes to fishing lures. Should the lure be a hit with fishermen, the typical inventor doesn't have the time or the money to fight lawsuits against every small lure-maker that might copy it and sell it.

What most amateur lure inventors fail to understand is that should their lure become a hit, they must be ready to produce thousands upon thousands of them instantly, Sisson said. Few have the means to accomplish that.

It may take months to have a mold built and then they must find someone who can produce the lures. Maybe most importantly, they must then find a way to distribute the lures to outlets across the U.S. The entire process is expensive and may take more than a year.

Sisson is credited with designing the first effective deep-diving crank bait. That lure, the Bagley's DB3, is one of those rare lures such as the Rat-L-Trap and Jitterbug that still sell decades after they were introduced.Get your own third party payment gateway account.

The reality is that the vast majority of lures have a short life span. Sales may last only a year until interest wanes. The inventor may invest his life savings to have the lure produced and by the time it finally hits the market, the fishermen who at first were so excited about it have found something else. Sisson said he has seen cases where amateur lure inventors who believe they are going to get wealthy invest their life savings and eventually lose most everything else they own.

Where individuals and big lure companies differ is that the companies have the capability to produce thousands of lures at a moment's notice as soon as a lure gets hot. They also have the distribution mechanism to put them in stores and bait shops across the U.S. in a very short time.Polypropylene and polythene can be used in a process called Injection Mold.

When interest in the lure plunges, the companies have lures waiting in the wings that are also ready to be mass produced to fill the void.

If an amateur inventor does have a revolutionary lure, he may get lucky and find a smaller lure company to produce it and distribute it, Sisson said.Shop for oil painting and oil paintings for sale included. Even then, he's badly mistaken if he believes he's about to get wealthy. The fishing lure business is highly competitive and production costs are critical to the final sales price. At best, an inventor may get a deal to receive a nickel or dime for every lure sold.

Bathtubs are luxurious but affordable

It used to be that when one wanted to bathe they had to carry water to which ever place they had their bath,Our company focus on manufacturing Plastic mould. iron corrugated shelter, bush or behind the house and just did their business. But living standards have come a long way and tastes have evolved.

When considering re-adjusting your bathroom or building a home from the scratch, one of the decisions you may be faced with is what type of bathtub will be suitable for your new space.

Once considered a luxurious item, bathtubs are now available in several varieties making it possible for every household to enjoy the fun and excitement of having one. Bathtubs have become the normal feature of any bathroom.

Often, with a new construction, the builder is the one who suggests which type will suit the house, but now, with such a wide variety of tubs available, many homeowners are the ones making the choice.

Sometimes, the tub type is determined by the types of bathrooms chosen for the home to go with a certain style. Other times, however, it can be difficult to choose because there are so many different types of bathtubs available.

Nowadays in market, very stylish types of bathtubs are available even for the small bathrooms that are irresistible. According to a sales executive of Tropical Africa Ventures Limited, Rebecca Nalumanji,FIRMAR is a Malaysia Injection Moulding Manufacturer. bathtubs come in a variety of materials as well as sizes, colours and styles. The choice and combination of materials should be based on one’s needs, tastes and budget.

Bathtub types can be defined by the materials used to construct them or by their style. The material used to make the bathtub and the styles of the bath are two of the most important factors to consider. Bathtubs are made from porcelain on steel, acrylic, fibre glass/ gel coat, composite, cast iron, cultured marble and wood.

Acrylic bathtubs are the most common type, since they are relatively durable, easy to care for,There is no de facto standard for an Indoor Positioning System. and the least expensive. “Tubs can be constructed of metals as well, such as cast iron bathtubs and steel bathtubs,” says Nalumanji.

Acrylic bathtub is a type of tub that is vacuum-molded from sheets of colored acrylic and reinforced with fiberglass, hence resistant to chips and cracks. “It is economical and lightweight, and it can be repaired if damaged. It has a natural luster,Painless Processing provides high risk merchant account solutions. and a non-porous finish that is easy to clean, but it is subject to scratching and can discolor over time,” she explains.

The second type is Fiberglass/Gel coat bathtub. It is usually light in weight, easy to install, and can be molded into a variety of shapes. Although similar in appearance to acrylic,Find beautiful landscape oil paintings here. fibre glass has some features that make it different from acrylic.

While the surface of an acrylic unit is vacuum formed from a single sheet of solid plastic, a fibre glass coat surface is formed by spraying a pigmented polyester resin onto a mold. Thick layers of fiberglass and foam insulation highlight the sleek and stylish lines of gel coat units. This material is much thinner and less durable than acrylic however it can be easily repaired.

Porcelain on Steel (POS) is another common and reasonably priced tubs available. They have not changed very much over the years and are usually found in older homes. The biggest change over the years in porcelain bathtubs has been the size of the tub.

They are made up of one thin stamped steel shell, which is coated with a heat-fused porcelain enamel. The advantage to this type is that they are resistant to acid, corrosion and abrasion, and are coloulllrfast thus they maintain their original colour and high gloss.

Bathtubs made from cast iron are the most expensive but really great in terms of durability and looks. Molten iron is used to make the cast iron bathtub. But the biggest disadvantage is that these are very heavy and can be scratched with sharp objects.
“Then you have the option of ceramic and glass tile bathtubs. This is difficult to find. Tile bathtub is made from the small mosaic tiles that are placed in a unique design and patterns. They are a bit difficult to construct thus are more costly,” explains Nalumanji.

The most recent modern type is whirlpool tub. These are different from other types of bathtubs in that they massage you while you relax. They have built-in water jets which gives them the element of luxury.

Publisher John Cowles Jr. shaped the Twin Cities for 50 years

John Cowles Jr., whose family ran Minneapolis newspapers for most of the 20th century,The Transaction Group offers the best high risk merchant account services, has died at 82.

Cowles, who had suffered from lung cancer, died shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday in his Minneapolis home overlooking the Stone Arch Bridge. "He died peacefully at sunset, surrounded by loving family," his family said in a statement. "His courage, deliberate style, wisdom and love of community were some of the special qualities that gave us all joy and will continue to be an influence in our lives."

Cowles was defined by his sense of responsibility to community, business and family. His personal style mixed grand vision, meticulous detail, curiosity and confidence.

As publisher and chairman of the Star and Tribune newspapers and later as a philanthropic visionary, he helped to shape the civic and cultural landscape of the Twin Cities.Wireless Indoor Positioning System have become very popular in the system. In the early 1960s, he courted Tyrone Guthrie to establish a regional theater here; 20 years later, he advocated for the Metrodome; last fall the Cowles Center for Dance was dedicated in Minneapolis.

"John Cowles is one of the most important civic figures in Minneapolis in the last half-century," said Mayor R.T. Rybak. "The scope of his work was overshadowed only by the humility that was at his core."

Author George Plimpton was his Harvard roommate, and Washington Post Publisher Katharine Graham was a longtime friend, as was world-renowned choreographer Merce Cunningham. Cowles and his wife, Sage, complemented each other for 60 years -- he reserved, she voluble. They found in each other a visionary free spirit.

"He had a great partner in Sage," said Wheelock Whitney,Your source for re-usable Plastic moulds of strong latex rubber. the retired business leader and politician, who was a lifelong friend.

Another friend, former Vice President Walter Mondale, called Cowles a "giant" in politics.

"He was always a person who fought for civility and reason and a sense of progress and caring in the community," Mondale said. "He was never a person who wanted credit. He was always one step behind those who he wanted to receive it."

Current Star Tribune Publisher Mike Klingensmith remarked that Cowles' contributions to the newspaper and the community were immeasurable. "All of us at the Star Tribune mourn his loss," he said.

David Cox, former CEO of Cowles Media, described Cowles as "one of those people who created this unique, civic-minded, philanthropic community that makes the Twin Cities so special."

Scion of a distinguished newspaper publishing family, Cowles,Mold is a plastic molds and plastic injection mold manufacturer in china. perhaps, found greater freedom after leaving active management of the newspaper in 1982. He danced with a national touring company, studied agricultural economics, taught aerobics and was an eminent philanthropist -- particularly after Cowles Media was sold to the McClatchy Co. for $1.4 billion in 1998.

"I wonder if he had been born in a different time, would he have struck out in a more adventurous way?" said Margaret Wurtele, Cowles' colleague on the Guthrie board and daughter of his longtime friend Philip von Blon.

His grandfather was a banker who bought the Des Moines Register and began a media empire in 1903. Cowles was 6 when his father, John Sr., and uncle bought the Minneapolis Star in 1935. The family moved to Minneapolis from Des Moines in 1938, and within three years John Sr. controlled all of the city's newspapers.

John Jr. joined the newspaper as a police reporter in 1953, after graduation from Harvard and a stint in the Army.

"I worked with John as a young reporter," said columnist Barbara Flanagan. "Everyone said, 'Oh my gosh, it's John Cowles Jr., and he's coming to work on the police beat.'"

Cowles succeeded his father as editor of the morning Tribune and the evening Star in 1961, as president in 1968 and editorial chairman a year later. During this tenure he deepened the newspapers' progressive philosophy through editorials that promoted civil rights and liberal causes, helping to organize the Urban Coalition in the late 1960s.

Donald Fraser, former Minneapolis mayor and U.S. representative, said he was impressed with the caliber of the reporters the Cowles family hired. "I'm convinced this is what made the Star Tribune a national model of progressive journalism," he said.

John Jr., aloof and intelligent, shared his father's voracious inquisitiveness and instinct for journalism. But where politics, world affairs and business fascinated John Sr., his son's ideas ranged into broad philosophical constructs, gender equity, art and human potential.

Beautiful Me Gift Shop’s crafters make many one-of-a-kind items

Crafting is more than a hobby, it’s a lifestyle, says Dorothy Gordon, of Veguita, one of 10 local crafters represented by Beautiful Me Gift Shop at 211 South Main St. in Belen.

Belen native and veteran crafter, Louise Silva, opened Beautiful Me in September as a place for her and her fellow crafters to have a permanent place to show their work after several years of traveling to craft shows and living the life of a vendor.

She says having a store space is easier and more cost effective than traveling from show to show, a life that Gordon, also a lifelong crafter, claims is less than glamorous.

“This is what crafters go through. They sleep in the bed of their truck,” Gordon said, laughing. “You eat almost bad bologna because you’re afraid to leave your table … This store, for all of us, has been a blessing.”

The gift shop, which represents a sisterhood of crafty gals who rent vendor space from Silva, offers a plethora of one-of-a-kind buys from handmade items to unique vintage finds.

Silva says the shop offers a variety of items that make it different from chain stores because anything you find at Beautiful Me is guaranteed to be unique, such as Gordon’s pins, which feature the ornate faces of ladies that she molds and paints herself and embellishes with recycled jewelry.

“All her pins are unique,” said Silva. “You won’t find a one that’s exactly the same.”

Much of the crafts that the vendors make are in some way constructed from recycled materials.Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality,

“We all take apart things and make something different with them,” said Silva.

“Once you’re a crafter, you’re a crafter for life,” quips Gordon. “Everything you see becomes an opportunity to craft … hoarder, they started off as crafters.”

What is garbage to one woman can be gold to a crafter.

“I caught her going through my trash. I was horrified,” says Gordon’s sister, Deborah Cox, adding, “She taught me everything I know.”

At Beautiful Me, shoppers can find anything from a tamale husk wreaths or angels to designer replica purses to crocheted items to cookie and candy bouquets.

Words and strategy come together at Scrabble tournament

The match just started, and already the A-Team has taken a 68-point lead over the Double L's.

The Double L's take a moment to review the move.

"How did you use all the letters?" one Double L's member asks.

"We're that good," Michele Tilley says, laughing.

This is Scrabble, where one seemingly tiny move -- like using an E instead of an O -- can make all the difference. There's no time to dwell.

About 120 people competed in the third annual Scrabble Scramble, a benefit for Lincoln Literacy, ceramic magic cube for the medical, in the Nebraska East Union on Sunday afternoon. For four hours, the 28 teams sat around tables competing for Scrabble crackers (crackers shaped liked Scrabble letters), trophies and the honor of being Scrabble champions.

The Scrabble players competed in either the competitive division or the recreation division. The A-Team -- consisting of friends Tilley, Maija Burdic, Patrick Adams and Rod Beery -- took second place last year in the competitive division.

They've been practicing. And they really,Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , really want to win.Do not use cleaners with porcelain tiles , steel wool or thinners.

As the team places tiles spelling out B-A-N-G-E-D, worth 30 points, a referee in a striped shirt patrols the room with a whistle. Other volunteers go from table to table with a dictionary to settle any disputes.

The A-Team plays its favorite word of the afternoon: S-P-A-R-K-I-E-R, worth 69 points.

"I like Scrabble because it's competitive," Adams says. "And I paid too much attention in English class and now I have too many words in my head."

But Scrabble isn't just about the words. It's about tile-point strategy: You don't want to leave any open spaces on the board that give the opposing team an advantage.

"People who are serious about Scrabble are really competitive," says Clayton Naff, executive director of Lincoln Literacy. "But everyone's been a good sport about it."

Five minutes before the game ends, the board is almost full. The A Team puts down C-H-I, worth 18 points.Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet,

"It's an alternate spelling!" Adams says. The referee checks the entry in his dictionary.

No E. No points.

No matter. Even with the Double L's Hail Mary -- H-O-L-E -- the game has been decided.

The referee blows his whistle. The scorekeeper tallies up the points: A-Team 400, Double L's 230.

A Double L's team member asks if they can practice with the winners. Tilley says of course.

At the end, the volunteers compare each team's points to see which team has the highest total. Along with bragging rights, the winning team in the competitive division gets a Scrabble tray with a brass nameplate.

Blood,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet

Nietzsche in one hand and the Bible in the other, Scott H. Biram's raising Cain.

"Biram 4:44," he hollers to no one in particular, throwing both arms into the air. "Thou shall not understand me."

What began as a photo shoot at an empty lot in an East Austin housing development complex has turned into a sermon on the mount for his so-called First Church of the Ultimate Fanaticism. Roving neighbors rubberneck the scene, some stopping to ask questions about the roadside attraction.

"I'm goin' fishin' in heaven," Biram continues unabated, full of Pentecostal fervor. "I'm gonna catch me a Jesus fish."

Wearing Velcro shoes and a faded Black Flag shirt, he looks like a mad trucker after an overnight haul, a fitting depiction of the 37-year-old local, currently stranded on a wall of amplifiers with his 1959 Gibson hollow body guitar – cracked earth below, expansive blue sky above. Over the last decade, Biram has become the definitive one-man band, a lone bandit from old weird America wreaking havoc with torrid tales of drugs, murder, chickens, and ever-fleeting redemption.

"George Jones. Beaumont, Texas. Jesus Christ," shouts Biram in short, spastic bouts, as if outlining the pillars of his faith. "Blackland Prairie. Poltergeist. David Lee Roth."

Even the most iconic outlaws banded together in times of desperation: Butch Cassidy led the Hole in the Wall Gang, while Willie Nelson rode herd with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the Highwaymen. Not Biram. He walks alone, accompanied only by his repute and legend,The application can provide third party merchant account to visitors, both stemming from his unlikely survival of a near-fatal car wreck in 2003.

Like Merle Haggard, Biram deals out misery and gin in equal measure, with a gritty immediacy that owes as much to 1930s chain gang recordings as the Misfits' gothic thrash. His latest, Bad Ingredients (see "Texas Platters,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations,These girls have never had a oil painting supplies in their lives!" Sept. 30), pieces together a shattered portrait of darkness on the edge of town and at the bottom of a bottle.

"The power of Biram compels you," he concludes, repeating the line twice for effect.

The camera stops clicking. Biram quickly comes to and curls his lip into a knowing smile. Asked what his middle initial stands for, he just bristles.

The mat to Biram's home in Southwest Austin isn't exactly welcoming, spelling out instead its owner's dark humor in bold capital letters: "GO AWAY."

"I don't really fit in the suburbs," shrugs Biram upon arrival.

For starters, there's a chicken coop in the backyard, tucked behind the shed, where four hens serve as a constant reminder of his small-town roots. Black-and-white family photos sit in the living room beside his grandmother's Singer sewing machine.he believes the fire started after the lift's China ceramic tile blew,

Biram purchased the home, along with his first touring van, with the settlement money from the accident. (He signed the mortgage the same day as his contract with Blood-shot, a deal that keeps him on the road 200 nights a year.) A string of voodoo skulls hangs across the parlor piano, and audio cables run through the walls of his two-bedroom home studio, where a dozen guitars compete for space with speakers and keyboards.

Spending a night with Occupy Maine in Lincoln Park

As I crawled into my sleeping bag in at the Occupy Maine encampment in Lincoln Park late Tuesday night, one of the handful of campers still hanging out under the communal tent had one last announcement.

“Mic check! We are the 99 percent!” someone yelled.

“Mic check! The 99 percent is trying to sleep!” came a reply from a nearby tent.

It’s been over two weeks since the protest calling itself Occupy Maine appeared in Portland, and the group’s encampment continues to grow. What started out as one lonely tent in Monument Square the first night of the protest, has grown to about 40 tents in Lincoln Park in downtown Portland.

Occupy Maine was first organized in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City. Since Occupy Wall Street began over a month ago calling for an end to corporate greed, similar protests have appeared across the country in cities like Boston, Denver, Chicago, Seattle and many others. Saturday saw rallies held around the world from Tokyo to Madrid.

Intrigued by the protests, and especially by the small tent city popping up within eyesight of my apartment, I decided to spend Tuesday night at the camp, speaking with participants, seeing how the camp is organized and trying to put my finger on what Occupy Maine is about.

“It’s a bee hive of activity here,” said Seamus Martin, 56, who has camped out in Lincoln Park since the first night of encampment. “It just feels right to be part of something like this.”

The camp is equipped with several gas stoves and lanterns, a small library and a pantry stocked with fresh fruit, brownie mixes, noodles, canned goods, hot dogs and more. Some participants have shelled out for supplies, but campers say a majority of the supplies have been donated by people sympathizing with the movement.

The campers are a diverse bunch. While there are a number of young people — including several children that are staying with their parents at the camp — the majority of the group appears older than many of the protesters seen these last two weeks in Monument Square.

Just as diverse are the reasons campers gave me for their presence there. Many are homeless, and some appear to be just looking for a safe place to camp. One man with several visible white power tattoos, who declined to give his name said he showed up by accident after being kicked out of a homeless shelter.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,

But most seem genuinely excited about the movement and the tent city that has sprung up around it.

“Maine has a history of this kind of thing,” said Martin, drawing a parallel to the underground rail road, to which there is a small monument in the park. ”I hope we’re catching the eye of the bankers and insurance companies, and I hope we’re scaring them.”

Steve Soldan, 27,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, said he arrived at the camp three nights prior, after a friend invited him. Soldan said even though he was staying at a friend’s apartment, he headed over to the park, and hasn’t left. “I think it’s really wrong what the government is doing to poor people,” Soldan said.

Despite the leaderless nature of Occupy Maine, the camp is well organized. Campers have cleaning crews, volunteers who cook communal meals and even a security detail that at night patrols the camp in shifts.

Meetings are run by consensus, with a variety of hand signals indicating agreement and disagreement, and participants sometimes communicate en masse using a tactic borrowed from their counterparts at the Occupy Wall Street protests called the “peoples’ mic.”

Any camper or protester wanting to make an announcement yells “Mic check!” which others then repeat. They then make a short announcement which is sometimes parroted back by others in order to relay the message.

Use of the “peoples’ mic” varies from important to humorous messages. While at the camp I heard it used to announce that a camper was being taken to the hospital with chest pains, to call a meeting of the security group and to see if ”anyone wants to cuddle.”

The campers have no intention of leaving, and the city, which maintains the park, has no intention of making them leave. “As long as they are good stewards of the park and abide by city ordinances, they can stay,” said city Director of Communications Nicole Clegg.

Clegg said the city extended the offer of allowing Occupy Maine to stay in Lincoln Park after the group first tried staying in Monument Square. City ordinances prohibit overnight use of public property, then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. but Clegg said the offer was made out of respect for the protesters’ First Amendment rights.Whilst oil paintings for sale are not deadly,

The camp hasn’t been without problems. Until Wednesday campers had access to a portable toilet nearby, but that afternoon it was locked to the dismay of the protesters. Some speculated that the toilet was locked as a ploy to force the camp to move on, while others blamed a few “bad apples” for making a mess of the toilet.

Campers have also had to deal with substance abuse by people staying in the camp. Several people appeared to be drunk Tuesday night, and at one point I caught a whiff of marijuana smoke.

At a meeting of the security detail,Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt, the most pressing issue they discusses was how to deal with a couple who they said were leaving hypodermic needle caps around, indicating intravenous drug use.

Local Shops Look to Hammer Big Boxes

Two longtime business are facing competition from giant chains. Can they sustain themselves in the climate of this new economy? Can they remain who they are and have always been or must they become a brand?

Brian's Aquarium & Pets in Rocky Point is going head to head with Petco, then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. while Rocky Point Hardware is having the screws put to them by the new Ace Hardware.

If you grew up in Rocky Point you would be familiar with its small town demographic. It is surrounded by state land (a 6000 acre preserve) and abuts the Long Island Sound. Many people live here but work elsewhere. There is no industry, but there are your local mom and pop stores that have been serving the community for generations.

"This community has always been anti-big box, and Petco is big box," said Brian Flanagan owner of Brian's Aquarium & Pets.

With Petco moving in just across the street in the Kohl's Shopping Center,If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards, Brian's has taken on the attitude of "The Little Engine Who Could," small but powerful.

"The good news is that with 31 years experience we are going to compete the best we can. We have the knowledge, our staff has been with us for years, we are all local people with families, we know our customers," said Brian, all the while rattling off the mathematical formula for gallonage in an outdoor pond for a customer.

Keith Denner and Cara Ledwith shop at Brian's for the price and service.

"We've been shopping here for years," Denner said. "We come for the personal service. They are knowledgeable and helpful."

Bill LaPurka, who has owned Rocky Point Hardware for so long that he has seen three generations of customers, said, "Our customers are our friends. We have a one on one relationship; we grow these friendships. It's a way of life that is leaving."

Ironically, Rocky Point Hardware was the first Ace on Long Island.

"Ace came to me back in '81 when they were trying to break into the market on the Island," he said. "They said 'You're kind of small,' but they put me in front of their board in Oakbrook, Ill. and they used to drive a 45-foot truck up to my store. Now they have 68 stores on Long Island.

Rocky Point Hardware still buys products directly from Ace, but the relationship is strained.

"They made me sign, that I was "Non-Branded" or they wouldn't sell to me," he said. "That means you can't say you're Ace, you can't advertise or give Ace rebates to your customers."

Kristine Mirell, who has worked for Rocky Point Hardware for twenty years, lives, works and shops locally.

"I have a pet rabbit and I buy pellets and bedding from Brian's Aquarium," she said. Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half, "Petco only carries brand names, The same natural bedding with the same upc code I buy at Brian's for $15.99 is $24.99 at Petco. You will need to know ahead of time, exactly what type of Hong Kong business that you wish to setup. Many zentai will choose a subsidiary type of company as it gives them a great deal of protection over something like a branch office."

Michael Hatzel, of All Glass Professionals, who was regaling both staff and customers with jokes, said "I won't step foot in the new Ace, they don't have the knowledge."

Costello's, the family company that owns the new Ace, has been in the Long Island area since 1973. The company sent a statement to Patch before the new store opened,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, saying that the store was brough to Rocky Point "based on market survey data that showcases a need in the community for the products and services that Ace provides."

Solar power project show great results

A large solar power project, combined with programs designed to increase energy efficiency, has yielded impressive results for CF Fresh, a leading organic produce marketer. A newly completed analysis of both programs shows impressive results in both conservation and energy production over four years.

The company installed 130 Sanyo HIP 195 solar panels and four SunnyBoy 6000 Inverters on the roof of their Sedro-Woolley office building in August 2007. At the same time, the company launched an initiative to reduce the amount of electricity consumed.then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence.

The conservation initiative included upgrading to more efficient light fixtures, upgrading HVAC systems, replacing incandescent bulbs with compact florescent, replacing CRT computer monitors with LCD flat screens, and installing windows to take advantage of natural light, among other things. If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards, Prior to 2007, CF Fresh’s annual electrical consumption had increased an average of 7.5% per year. However, since the implementation of their conservation program the company has seen a reduction in annual electrical usage every year. The total energy used in 2011 is projected to be just 80% of the electricity used in 2007.

Addie Pobst, CF Fresh Sustainability & Integrity Representative, said "Energy conservation is an important component of our sustainability effort.Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt, Sustainability is a core goal of our company, a natural outgrowth of our organic roots. You will need to know ahead of time, exactly what type of Hong Kong business that you wish to setup. Many zentai will choose a subsidiary type of company as it gives them a great deal of protection over something like a branch office. It’s encouraging that our conservation efforts have shown such clear and ongoing reductions in our electrical usage."

CF Fresh’s rooftop solar installation has averaged just over 20,000 KWH produced annually,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, a good result given the rainy climate of northwestern Washington State. In 2008 CF Fresh produced 37% of the total electricity used at the Sedro-Woolley office, and in 2011 the company projects the system will produce 42% of their energy total.

“As our conservation measures continue to reduce the total amount of energy we consume, the percentage of our energy that is produced in-house rises,” notes Pobst. “The solar project and our conservation measures compliment each other extremely well.”

CF Fresh is a pioneer in the marketing of northwest organic tree fruits and a leading US supplier of certified organic fresh fruits and vegetables to wholesalers, retailers and distributors. CF Fresh works with a network of dedicated certified organic growers, supporting their commitment to organic agriculture with the industry’s most experienced organic sales and marketing staff. CF Fresh offers customers a year-round supply of organic apples, pears, onions and potatoes, as well as stone fruits and other seasonal items.

The snake lady

I WAS working behind the counter at the veterinary surgery one Sunday morning, a task I have to perform on the odd occasion as the wife of a veterinarian,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, when a strange-looking lady came in.

I say “strange looking” as she did not conform to the normal way women dress. If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards, She was not eccentric or bohemian or anything like that, she was not even very colourful,Als lichtbron wordt een offshore merchant account gebruikt, in fact she was quite drab. She was just different. Her hair was cropped short around her face yet it hung in a perfect bob into her neck. It was a beautiful blonde colour.

She wore what appeared to be navy security guard apparel with big boots. Blue jersey, blue combat pants with lots of pockets. The overall impression was lots of navy blue everywhere. She had big blue eyes and blonde, blonde hair.

The lady was in such a state! Tears were pouring down her face as she placed a one litre ice-cream container on the counter. I noticed her hands, they were scrubbed red and her finger nails had been bitten to the quick. They looked as if they were bleeding.

“Can I help you,” I asked.

“Yes,” she replied, ”I need a hug.”

This took me by surprise but we aim to please in our practice so I went around the counter and gave her a big hug. She clung to me.

“What is the problem,” I asked as I patted her back like a good mother would do.

“My snake has kept me up all night,” she replied, “and I am exhausted.”

I froze. Snake! Oh no, I am petrified of snakes.

I released her and looked at the ice-cream container sitting innocently on the counter.

“What is wrong with your snake?” I questioned, while retreating behind the counter again.

“She is egg bound,” was the reply.

“I am so sorry to hear that,” I replied and hoped like mad that the vet would know what to do with an egg-bound snake as he did not often get the chance to treat many of them.

I became very efficient and brisk as I asked for her name and address, and put her details into the computer and added her to the queue. By now the other clients were showing a lot of interest in the snake lady and especially in her snake.

Oh, please don’t ask her to open the box!

“What kind of snake is it?”

I think she said a garter snake, but I was not listening too well as my heart was hammering in my chest. I could see she was about to take the lid off the ice-cream container.

Please don’t let it escape, oh please don’t. I have had to rescue puppies that have slipped their leads and cats that have escaped their cat boxes, but I would not be very professional if any snake, no matter what it is, escaped over the counter and hid behind the desk.

Luckily, the snake was almost comatose and just lay there.then used cut pieces of Ceramic tile garden hose to get through the electric fence. I suppose if I was egg bound I would also just lie there. Poor thing must have been very uncomfortable and very sore.

All the clients had a good look as she stroked her “baby” and cooed at it. They offered the right words of sympathy and interest. The snake lady revelled in the attention.

Eventually, it was her turn to be taken into the consulting room and I could give a sigh of relief. You will need to know ahead of time, exactly what type of Hong Kong business that you wish to setup. Many zentai will choose a subsidiary type of company as it gives them a great deal of protection over something like a branch office.

After many long minutes the vet and the snake lady emerged from the consulting room. She had a saintly smile on her face and was clutching a hypodermic needle and syringe in her hand. The syringe contained about 2,5mm of fluid.

“Will you manage to give her the rest of the injection yourself?” asked the vet.

“Oh yes, doctor, no problem,” answered the snake lady.

“At least we will have a good night’s sleep, won’t we baby?” she cooed.

“Thanks for everything and especially the hug,” she called to me as she ran excitedly out the door and away down the street. I did not see a car parked anywhere. I wondered where she lived.

Many months passed after that little incident and I completely forgot about the snake lady until one day in The Witness I read about a reclusive lady who had been found dead in her home in Hayfields, Pietermaritzburg. She had inherited the house from her parents and lived quietly and unobtrusively, so her neighbours said. She had been dead for quite a few days before anyone had found her.

Solar energy system prices not falling like panel costs

The price of solar panels has plunged in the past four years. But the price of a complete home solar system hasn't kept pace.

New factories in China have flooded the market with solar modules, driving down panel prices by 40 percent. The amount San Antonio homeowners pay for a rooftop solar system has dropped by a more modest amount, 24 percent.

While that's still a significant decline, why haven't the prices that homeowners pay fallen further?

Solar industry executives and analysts cite several sticking points.we supply all kinds of polished tiles, One is time. Solar businesses may buy panels one month and install them several months later — after prices have fallen.

"There is a lag," said Galen Barbose, principal scientific engineering associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who studies solar prices. "You've got these upstream cost reductions that take months to ripple down to the consumer."

Plus, modules account for less than half the cost of a complete solar system. Other elements such as labor and the cost of securing a government permit to install the system haven't changed or haven't changed much. And some of the basic materials that go into a system have increased in price.

"Copper isn't getting cheaper; aluminum isn't getting cheaper,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations," said Gary Gerber, president of Sun Light & Power in Berkeley, which specializes in selling solar systems to businesses. "The basic commodity stuff — the fittings, the wires — that's going to go up over time."

"It makes sense," Solar San Antonio executive director Lanny Sinkin said, "that the price of an installed system is going to fall slower because the cost of labor isn't going down — unless you're becoming more efficient in how you install it."

The city of San Antonio is applying for an Energy Department grant that would streamline the interconnection process, along with the permitting and financing of a solar system. If the grant is awarded, participants will include CPS Energy,It's hard to beat the versatility of zentai suits on a production line. Solar San Antonio, Build San Antonio Green, the city of Austin and Austin Energy, and the city of Houston and the Houston Advanced Research Center.

Most analysts expect the overall price of solar systems to continue falling.Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. The questions are how fast and how far.

"Most people are projecting cost reductions to continue well into the future," said Lawrence Berkeley's Barbose, who issues an annual price update called Tracking the Sun. "Presumably, they're going to bottom out at some point, but there's no indication that it's imminent.we supply all kinds of polished tiles,"

ModuLab-MTS System for the Electrical Characterization of Materials By Solartron

The ModuLab MTS is a new concept in testing the electrical properties of materials. The system uniquely combines time domain tests (I-V, pulse, ramp),Welcome to the official Facebook Page about Ripcurl. and AC tests (C-V, Mott-Schottky, impedance, permittivity), together with a wide range of modules providing high voltage, high current resolution, sample / reference measurements. Temperature control and sample holder accessories add to the capabilities of the system.

The following table summarizes some of the key features and applications of the system.

ModuLab-MTS systems comprise a chassis with power supply and display panel, the Injection mold fast! and with either four or eight available slots, into which ModuLab-MTS modules may be inserted. As a minimum the system is fitted with one or more MAT-1MHz "core" modules; each of these in turn can then support one or more accessory cards, which include a frequency response analyzer, power booster, high voltage cards, femto ammeter for measuring very weak signal currents,The same Air purifier, cover removed. and a sample-reference switch card used to get the best possible results when measuring dielectric materials.

The system is controlled via an Ethernet interface from a PC running Windows XP or Vista using the powerful ModuLab-MTS operating software. A large selection of test types is provided, from standard open circuit, I-V, pulse, C-V, mott-Schottky, to complete multistep sequences that can include sample temperature control using a cryostat or high temperature furnace.

The standard MAT core module provides up to ¡À8 V stimulus to the sample. For many applications however, higher voltage is needed, for example when testing high impedance insulator materials.

The MAT option works together with the MHV to provide ultra-smooth swept voltage,Polycore zentai are manufactured as a single sheet, I-V, DC, and pulse waveforms over the extended voltage range of ¡À100 V and automatically attenuates the sample voltage for MAT core measurement.

The MHV can also supply up to 100 V peak AC waveforms for impedance analysis by amplifying the output of the MFRA module. DC and AC signals can be combined for high voltage C-V, Mott-Schottky, capacitance and impedance analysis.

Model MBST High Current Booster Module - maximum output ¡À 2 A
The standard MAT core module is able to provide current output of up to ¡À100 mA.Save on hydraulic hose and fittings dstti , For some applications higher current levels may be required, for example for characterization of semiconductors when biased in the on region, or for testing superconductors.

The MBST option provides up to ¡À2 A current output combined with reduced output impedance. This makes it much easier for the system to measure the voltage drop across the sample, providing impedance resolution in the 10 region.

When Johnson launched the project, she wanted to build robust power systems that would not break down under the extreme weather conditions.

She turned to Mark Snyder,Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality, an electrician, homebuilder and inventor from California, to develop a solar system that could last on the reservation.

She said she chose him because in 2009, he designed solar water-purification systems that were deployed to Iraq, where the infrastructure had been destroyed by the war.

Snyder, chief executive of Global Solar Water Power Systems Inc. of Spring Valley, Calif., modified a power structure, which he originally designed for nomads in Sudan, for use on the reservation.

"The Sudan climate is not nearly as hostile as here in winter,Welcome to the official Facebook Page about Ripcurl." he said.

He estimates that it will cost about $24,000 per unit to build the structures, after his initial trial with the Curtis.

"The biggest problem out on the rez, the systems just die," he said.

On another job where he was installing solar panels on a Navajo home, he said, some of the neighbors joked with him about how useless solar panels were on the reservation.

"They asked, 'Have you seen a solar panel blow by today?' " he said, a reference to stiff winds that often destroy roof-mounted solar panels there.

Snyder knows the difficulty from a previous project, as well. His company donated a solar-power system to another Navajo home that was featured on the television program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" in 2007.

The revamped home got lots of attention after the show aired because the family complained it wasn't insulated enough to fight the frigid winter weather.

Snyder said that his solar installation on that home works but that the project offers lessons for contractors hoping to help.

Simply installing the solar utility structure at the Curtis home reveals the difficulty of bringing energy to this rugged corner of the world.

Once crew members poured the foundation concrete, it took several hours to center the building on the footing because they were working without a crane or any heavy equipment.

"The first one is always the hardest," Snyder said.

They worked well into the night as temperatures dropped to near zero.

Snyder and Johnson said they are moving forward regardless of such challenges. And if many of the homes need upgrades, the Injection mold fast! then that is just an obstacle they will have to negotiate.

"We are not giving up," Johnson said. "There has got to be something that can be done. It rips my heart out that there are so many folks out there without power."

Her non-profit has been approved to install solar-power units on 25 more Navajo homes with money from the power-plant settlement and from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. But before they start, she needs to raise money for labor. Most of the labor for the Curtis home was donated. The name "magic cube" is not unique.

"I can't keep asking for that," she said.you will need to get an offshore merchant account. "Unemployment is over 50 percent up there. We need jobs."

Fire atop old auto dealership in downtown Woodland quickly extinguished

It may have simply been its time to fail.

That was the immediate observation of Fire Chief Rick Sander early Monday morning after a ventilation system atop the now-closed Century Buick Pontiac Chevrolet Dealership in downtown Woodland caught fire.

The first-alarm structure fire was reported at 8:48 a.m. after people who happened to be nearby saw smoke rising from the building.Full color plastic card printing and manufacturing services.

A police officer was on the scene within seconds and confirmed the roof-top fire.

Due to the proximity of Fire Station No. 1, which is located on Court Street at Grand Avenue - about three blocks west of the old dealership - fire crews were on the scene within minutes.

Fire crews entered off Walnut Street and were quickly on the roof where they discovered an exhaust system had caught fire for a still-unknown reason.

Sander said some maintenance work was being done at the facility, which fronts Main Street, immediately north of the State Theatre,Shop a wide selection of billabong outlet products in the evo shop. but he didn't believe there was electrical power runniuy sculpture direct from us at low pricesng through the mechanism.Choose from one of the major categories of Bedding,

The fire itself was contained within minutes by firefighters.

The dealership has been closed for at least the past five years.

A spoonful of sugar has made soda sales go up

Bill Meier flips over an empty Frostie Root Beer bottle and checks the embossed numbers.

"This one's from '69," he says.Welcome to the official Facebook Page about Ripcurl. As in 1969. As in a soda bottle that's been in use for more than 40 years.

"I've seen some dated from the '40s," Meier says.

The returnable bottles aren't the only vintage items in this part of the Excel Bottling Co. plant. The bottles pass through a mid-1900s sterilizing machine before another old machine called a Dixie fills them with cane-sugar-sweetened syrup and filtered carbonated water. The Dixie operates at what was once a gee-whiz rate of 24 bottles a minute.

In a time when huge multinational soda companies are producing cane-sugar-sweetened versions of products and calling them "throwbacks," this tiny operation might also be considered a throwback. But it's the way they've always done things at Excel, ever since Meier's grandparents-Edward "Lefty" Meier and Catherine "Caddy" Bruegge Meier - founded the business in 1936 by purchasing a used bottling machine with reward money that Lefty received for catching a bank robber.

And while the front part of the plant hasn't changed much, various additions - including a disposable-bottle filler that runs at up to 320 bottles per minute - have accommodated growth in production from about 100,000 cases a year in 1970 to the equivalent of about 500,000 cases today.

During all that time, Excel's No. 1 product has been Ski.

Many people believe that Ski originated with Excel, but in fact it's another company's licensed product, as are several of the sodas Excel bottles, you will need to get an offshore merchant account. including Frostie.

"Ski was the last franchise we added, in the early '60s," Meier says. "It's a trademark of the Double-Cola Co. of Chattanooga. In the late '50s, a bottler in Highland was doing Sundrop, and my grandfather said that we needed to get a citrus soda of our own."

Ski soon reached something of a cult status in Southern Illinois, including a reputation as a hangover cure.

"The truth behind that, as we believe it, is that Ski has caffeine in it and the No. 1 ingredient is sugar, plus it has orange juice and lemon juice, so it probably has some impact in boosting you up and making you feel better," Meier says.

Meier adds that many residents of Breese and its environs still use Ski as a proxy for their morning coffee. "There are a lot of people in this town who go to Dairy King and get a fountain Ski to start their day," Meier says.

At the end of the day, they might also indulge in a "snoot shooter," a shot of whiskey chased from a specialty two-compartment glass by a dose of Ski.

As Meier tells it, his grandfather never really intended for Excel to be passed on to future generations.

"When he ran the company, it grew very little every year," Meier says. The name "magic cube" is not unique. "I think he had the view that once he passed away, we'd just shut it down."

But near the end of Lefty's life, his son Paul - Bill's father - took early retirement from a career at Aetna Insurance and came back into the family business. Bill, now 44, earned an electrical engineering degree from Washington University and worked in Chicago for a while, but ultimately also moved back to Breese and joined the business. Not to be confused with RUBBER MATS available at your local hardware store He recently moved to St. Louis County but still commutes to Breese almost daily.

After Lefty's death in 1996, Caddy continued working for the business.

"She'd bill all the grocery stores by hand," Meier says. "When I got here in 2002, she was still adding everything up by hand."

Automation was soon added, but Caddy continued doing the books until she was 97 and answered the phone for another year after that. She died in 2009 at the age of 99.

Meier's office is now in a downstairs room of the house Caddy lived in until her death.buy landscape oil paintings online. The house, which had belonged to Caddy's own grandmother, was already almost 100 years old and had no heat, indoor plumbing or kitchen when Lefty and Caddy refurbished it about the same time that they started Excel.

Excel now has 15 full- and part-time employees who produce 14 flavors, including three under the Excel name and three recently added fruit flavors-strawberry-kiwi, cherry and blueberry - under a new Breese brand. Other flavors are produced based on licensing agreements from existing and defunct companies.

Further confusing the branding issue, some of the sodas' bottles bear completely unrelated names, such as Clem's, reflecting Excel's purchase of returnable bottles from companies that have gone out of business. (The product inside is still Excel's soda.)

The majority of the returnable-bottle-soda inventory is sold directly to consumers within two weeks of bottling from the side door of the plant. Cases of 24 bottles sell from $13 to $15.

In addition to distribution in and around Breese, Excel products are also available in scattered locations on the Missouri side of the river-at the Culinaria downtown, Blues City Deli in Benton Park, select Motomart convenience stores and all Straub's stores.

"We definitely think our next growth area is in St. Louis," Meier says.

With Excel already having received a boost from the recent revival in interest for cane-sugar-sweetened sodas, Meier hopes that the environmentally friendly aspect of returnable bottles will also be a selling point.

"We're betting that returnables will make a comeback," Meier says. "If you truly want to 'go green,' it makes sense to use returnable bottles."

Toward that end, Meier has plans to complement the Dixie with another second-hand machine now sitting idle, a returnable-bottle filler that's newer and faster. And when that happens, he hopes to make the biggest leap yet in additions to Excel's product line.

"We expect to be brewing beer in the next year," Meier says.
